It’s almost impossible to find a comprehensive guide to Earth Day events – so we thought – hey! Why don’t we put one together!

Chicago Green Family Festival

The Green Family festival is an all-out eco friendly vendors extravaganza! Arrive early to scope out the very best of sustainable businesses, workshops, and locally grown food. The perfect event to attend with kids.

When: Saturday April 17th & Sunday April 18th

Where: Irish American Heritage Center 4626 N. Knox Avenue, Chicago

Cost: $ Admission; Free if you bring a canned food donation

ChicaGO GREEN

Food, fashion, and green-living tips abound at ChicaGO Green. Meet representatives from local companies who are currently making an impact while learning more about how to reduce your carbon footprint at this eco-festival.

When: Saturday April 17th & Sunday April 18th from 10am – 5pm

REI Earth Day Service Project

Get your green thumbs pumped for this hands-on event at Gompers Park! Help weed the park of invasive species and plant new seedlings at this Earth Day centered service project.

North Lake Shore Community Earth Day: Recipe for a Healthy Planet
Fun and informative eco-centered programing highlights this North Side sustainability festival. From workshops and community activism, to vendors and freebies, this will be the place to be Saturday afternoon!
Where: Loyola University Lakeshore Campus
When: Saturday April 17th 9am-4:30pm
Cost: Free!
Chicago Kayak Earth Day Cleanup
Hit the water with this annual clean up event that pulls trash from the lake and its shores. Bring your own kayaking gear, or borrow a boat on-sight. What better way to celebrate the holiday than with some hands-on eco-action!
When: Sunday April 18 1-5pm

Adventures in Recycling
In this fun class, brought to you by Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum, you’ll learn the ins and outs of day to day recycling. Attend to see how to make this time honored sustainable practice truly effective. Afterwards spend the day celebrating Earth Day in the museum!

Green Sprouts Family Earth Day Event
Join other green-minded parents at this tot sized event at Greenheart Shop. While your toddler enjoys story time with local author, Jennifer Murphy, join the other parents for an informative workshop on making natural body products, lead by local green expert Eleanor Riley. Learn simple ways to green your childcare routine using products and foods within your own home.

Earth Day 2010 Keynote Speaker: Jean-Micel Cousteau
Join Jean-Michel Cousteau, son of Jacques Cousteau, for a presentation titled “The Other 70%: Understanding the Earth’s Underwater Ecosystems. Sure to be an informative and inspiring evening.

5K for Earth Day
Beginning with a family friendly 5k run/walk, this race will culminate at the Humboldt Park boat house with a free Green Living Expo including great music, family entertainment, delicious food, exciting vendors and shopping, environmental education and fun for the whole family.
