Here at Sprout we are stoked about the upcoming 40th Anniversary of Earth Day. As we’re scouring the web for events celebrating this consciousness-raising holiday we have found that in Chicago, Earth Day really is every day!

Here are some happenings scheduled for this weekend:

Green Gene’s  Anniversary Celebration Come celebrate one of our favorite nook’s 2nd anniversary! All weekend this sweet sustainable shop in Andersonville will be hosting presentations, discussions, and eco-crafting demos as they celebrate two years of  sustainable business. From story-telling and block building  to vermiculture and local artists, this event will have something for eco verts of all ages!

Why It’s Green: Hosted by a green business, features local vendors, sustainable demos

Where: 5111 North Clark Street Chicago

When: Saturday, April 10th 10am-8pm; Sunday April 11th 12-4pm

Tonight we want to remind you of the luxury of darkness, of the things you might discover once the lights flicker off. As the clock ticks towards 8:30 for Earth Hour, we’ll unplug gadgets and hush the lights, and create rolling blankets of blackness across the planet’s skies. We do this in solidarity – one billion strong – as a vote against irresponsible energy use, against global warming, and for the planet Earth.

But we also do it because we miss the way the stars look on the darkest nights, and the way that candles flicker to warm up a house – or the way that voices hush to match the quiet evening that settles in when you simply let things get dark. Read the rest of this entry »
